Trip out to Dulles Virginia :: 08.18.01 :: pencam : travel :

Spent this past week in Dulles, Virginia on business. Basically visiting the mother ship of AOL. Some pics of my trip are posted. All were shot with the Pencam. The highlight was a meandering drive out to where I used to live in Loudoun County.

I drove out west from Dulles, to Leesburg, Va then turned south down Rte 15. About 8 miles south, I turned west again onto Rte 50 towards Middleburg. This road winds and goes up and down rolling hills out to the rich tapestry of Loudoun horse country. The road passes a ton of Virginia wineries and horse farms. Once in Middleburg, I turned right down a little two lane road, past the barn apartment I used to live in, past the Middleburg steeplechase courses and fox hunt out into the rolling hills. Most of the pics here are from this later part of the drive. The road twists and turns as it hugs the large estates and hills. There were several more turns and eventually I ended up on an unpaved road northeast of Belmont. This parallels a creek and it was misty and moist after the afternoon rain. I eventually ended up back out on Rte. 15 just a little south of Leesburg. With all the changes and growth in the area, it was nice to experience a little bit of familiar territory. Some things had not changed at all.

Remnants from the Jazz Festival. Umbrellas. On the plane headed to Virginia. The East Coast is socked in with storms, but we are
above all that.
Clouds make for a beautiful sunset.

Bryce and Matt Long walkway from Building 1 of the AOL campus to Building
3 for lunch.

Bridge over the road connecting the two parts of the
campus.
AOL designers go to lunch. Bryce and Bernd. Greg Willis facing me. More AOL designers in the back. Matt, Greg, Enrique and others.
Bernd Ewert - head of UI at AOL in Dulles. On the road to Middleburg. The rain has passed and the sun is streaming through the steam. Rolling hills, cows and fields.
Stonewalls edge the hills of this farm. Sun breaks through behind the stone wall. Deer from the car. Two deer seen from my car.
The two deer are high-tailing it home. Barn Barn and house. Sun on the clouds as I head back to the highway and
my hotel.
Going home, the plane passes over the central valley
of Ca.
The central valley. Passing over the low mountains back into the Bay area. The mountains of the Bay area. Home sweet home.
