San Jose Jazz Festival :: 08.12.01 :: canonD30 : music :
Eric SardinasThis afternoon we went over to the San Jose Jazz Festival. We started at the Main Stage but it was so crowded we decided to move along to another stage. There were 8 in all. The next one we tried - the Women in Jazz stage, was an indoor venue and was also too crowded. So we decided to keep going to the Blues stage. This is where we ended up staying for the rest of the evening.

All these images were shot with the Canon digital. The cathedral, motorcycles and plaza hotel were all shot while weaving our way through the crowds and streets of San Jose. Once we got to the Blues and BBQ stage, we settled into a table, grabbed some food and waited for the next band to start. The band we saw was Eric Sardinas. I was skeptical at first, because they sounded like a southern rock band gone astray. This was supposed to be blues. Plus the main guy looked like he got lost on his way to playing with Aerosmith. He had on little rocker pants, lots of jewelry and a see through shirt. But once he got going he was excellent. A heavy rock influence but definitely blues. If you look close at the pics - particularly the ones where he came down into the crowd - you can see he was playing so hard, his fingers were bleeding. He was amazing on the guitar and was super to watch. His vocals were ok, much better on the instrumentals. The bass player switched back and forth between an upright bass and an electric bass. When he was playing the upright, he laid it onto its side and got up on it and played it below his feet. See the picture. Amazing. Anyway - these guys are touring around and are definitely worth catching. It was a nice surprise. I captured a couple of the Sharks on the way back to the car. I think a Shark sighting excursion is definitely coming soon.

Dear Erin:

Your photos are to die for. I'm a serious Eric Sardinas fan (I even have a fan site for him, RespectPerfection.com), and your pictures were some of the first I found online.

They rock... Good job!
