Mighty Midget kitchen, Leesburg Virginia
Once upon a time I lived in Leesburg Virginia. In Leesburg was a small mini-diner called the mighty midget. I never ate there but it was supposed to be a great place to get carry out fries and burgers. Only one guy could work in the kitchen space. Last year I started travelling back to Virginia as part of my job at AOL. I went back to Leesburg checking out my old haunts, was my townhouse still there, what about the woods where I used to walk with Maggie and take lots of photos, how about the Mighty Midget? Alas...

you can't go home again - at least and expect it to be exactly as you left it. My town house was still there, but the neighborhood had been surrounded by new homes and the woods where we used to walk was another neighborhood. Even the Mighty Midget was gone. In October, I discovered that the Mighty Midget had not been destroyed, just moved. Yippee!

This past week I was in Virginia again and took a couple of coworkers out to see the Might Midget for themselves. It was night and it was closed, but that didn't stop some photo taking.

Hi Erin-

I stumbled upon your site doing a Google search of the Mighty Midget Kitchen. Small world. You might remember me or my wife Mary from your MF&A days. Anyway, I'm playing music at the Midget this Friday and am about to do my e-mail reminder. Do you mind if I use one of your images for this purpose? Let me know. Thanks. Be well.

Peter

We've been HUGE fans of the Midget for several years now. Great food, great atmosphere, great owners, great place to eat w/ friends.

Just heard about the midget from a Washington Post article - I've been living in Leesburg for a few months now and have seen it before, but thought from its location that it was just a snack bar at an antique store. I'm going to be picking up some ribs for dinner tonight (Assuming there are any left) - I only hope they're HALF as good as the article indicated they would be. I look forward to coming out for the live music soon. is there a schedule of who's playing?

A friend of mine just took me to the Midget on Thursday, June 26 2003. I was impressed and inspired! I now have many ideas for obnoxious, artery clogging bbq recipes this 4th of July. death to chain restaurants!

PS- Except Chipolte, if they don't get too big and stupid for their own good.

Dear Erin,
We have a community oriented website for Loudoun (www.loudoundeals.com) and are running an article in our Local Lore section about The Mighty Midget Kitchen early next week. Would it be possible to run one of your photos (with attribution and a link to your website) with the article?

Regards,
Donita Prakash

I have been searching high and low for a picture of the Mighty Midget Kitchen. I have enjoyed many a burger at the old location. I have not seen the new place.

I have used one of your photos, with credit, on my Web page. Please let me know if this is OK. If not I will remove it.

Now why didn't I ever push my parents to make us stop there to eat?

I'll never forget that fork in the road in Leesburg with the retro-modern restaurant the size of a refrigerator smack dab in the middle of the Y. Truth be told, it always looked at bit like an Airstream counterpart, and I thought it must've been.

I always wondered what the burgers tasted like, but my mother was sure they would be just like the "grease balls" she'd eaten at Little Tavern before.

So I never got to eat at the Mighty Midget.

But I've never forgotten it.

Erin,

This is wild. I was just sitting here talking about the Midget with my cohorts at Sparky's, and put the name into google to get their phone number to see if they're open.

And there you are.

How's life been since MF&A? I've got a shop around the corner on Wirt St. in an old church. Doing work for Reston Hospital again, if you can believe it (and Sutton Place, GlaxoSmithKline, Northern Virginia Tourism, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Site59 and a handful of others).

Needless to say, life is crazy.

Drop me a line when you have a chance.

Nice shots, by the way.

Bill
