Musical evening :: 08.29.02 |
:: music : |
Went to the Music in the Park after work this evening, which is every Thursday in San Jose. I went to hear Luce - which is one of my favorite new bands. Local, discovered by the radio station I listen to - KFOG. Little did I know, that another band played before them. The Waifs - from Australia. They were great. I need to get their album. They were followed by Luce, which sang a lot of songs off their album as well as a few covers of America, The Beatles and Stevie Wonder. They are a great band and I highly recommend seeing them while they are still new, fresh and free.

It's a Wash :: 05. 5.02 |

It seems to be even - I own as many of the albums off the 50 Coolest Albums as I do off the 50 Uncoolest Albums list. So what does that mean? (via kottke)

Another Beatle gone :: 12. 1.01 |
:: music : |
George Harrison died Thursday night. I am a super Beatles freak but was never fanatic about GH. Yet my favorite Beatles song is a Harrison tune: While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I watched a really interesting biography on Harrison last night on the A&E channel. Lots of insight into this quiet and introspective man and nice historical information about his musical influences and his serious study to be a great musician. With each passing Beatle, we are another day away from our innocence and a reunion concert with the surviving members of the band. It is truly a sad day.

San Jose Jazz Festival :: 08.12.01 |
:: canonD30 : music : |
This afternoon we went over to the San Jose Jazz Festival. We started at the Main Stage but it was so crowded we decided to move along to another stage. There were 8 in all. The next one we tried - the Women in Jazz stage, was an indoor venue and was also too crowded. So we decided to keep going to the Blues stage. This is where we ended up staying for the rest of the evening.

Bela Fleck :: 07. 7.01 |
:: music : |
Just got back from one of the most incredible concerts I have ever seen.
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - jazz, bluegrass, fusion stuff - whatever you call it - these guys tore the house down. I was amazed and in awe of their talent. The bass player was astounding with what he could do on that instrument. People behind me were commenting about how no one could do that, it wasn't natural - he was that good. Bela Fleck played one set unplugged on his banjo and proceeded to play a slew of songs including a Vince Giraldi (the peanuts tune) and finally ended up doing a classical piece. If you had your eyes closed and didn't know he was on a banjo - you would swear it was a harpsichord. wow. The concert was at the Mountain Winery. The view was breathtaking. The whole of silicon valley can be seen from there. I took the PenCam - wasn't sure what the camera policy was there so I figured I'd be safe with the tiny thing. The shots off the mountain are cool because they look like paintings rather than photos, they are soft and nubby looking. This was my first time up here and it is definitely a place to come back to. Why haven't I been here before in all this time? Who knows. The shots of the band basically suck - the detail is lost and Bela Fleck is blasted out because of his white striped shirt. But here they are anyway. Once it got dark the camera stopped working. Next time - the better camera goes - they are allowed. Band shots: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
